Huge thank you to all of you who have clicked the link that brought you here! We just finished this website and it will become the landing place for all of our family updates. So if you want to know what’s going on in the Brock home and at Ironwood then stick around. Now on to what has been happening this spring and summer (spoilers…it was busy!)
Camp Happenings
Fist we demolished the buffet room in spring. And by demolished, I mean knocked out multiple major walls, pulled up the flooring, cut new drain lines in concrete, cut holes in walls for windows, and just overall made a mess. It was a lot of work and required all hands on deck for the initial demo. Since then, they have renovated the whole buffet room. We have drink machines, ice machines, and did I mention drink machines with milk available 24/7.

Hopefully, your comfortable because the buffet room was only one of the…let me count…9 things I wanted to write about! Here goes, I taught two classes for IIM, Bibliology and Persuasion. Ember is transitioning from Hacienda to bookkeeping (an exciting prospect since it means she gets to work with spreadsheets…which according to her is exciting.) I split the Ironwood YouTube channel into three separate channels since we make three different types of videos for three very different types of people. Another WiFi Tower has been assembled, programmed, and released into the wild. On that topic, the WiFi Towers have finally proven themselves. We have had a number of tempestuous storms (I’m so happy to finally use the word tempestuous in a real sentence) over the past few months and the network has remained stable through almost all of them. It used to be that if somebody sneezed to close to a network device we would have major outages. Ok. It wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t very stable and now it is. Three out of nine topics left. Onward.

Summer brought heat, beforementioned storms, and juniors! So many juniors! We had 4 weeks of full junior camps. Ember and I had the privilege of serving alongside an excellent group of program assistants and counselors. I had a blast opening the Mystery Box, telling George Mueller’s story, dressing up as an Afton Yeti, and watching kids learn team work at the low ropes course.

However, nothing beat watching kids believe in Christ, decide to do devotions, and commit their lives to serving God. Every summer Ember and I are reminded why we work long hours cleaning the Hacienda, planning for summer, learning spreadsheets, running games, building activities, making YouTube videos, and working on WiFi Towers. We do it to see God change lives. And that is exactly what God did this summer!

Church Happenings
So I have an embarrassing story. It starts with an idea our Youth Group had. You see we had planned to do an all church activity that we would run and the idea that someone in our group pitched was to do a marshmallow roasting contest. Not just any marshmallow roasting contest. A very serious contest where we would analyze 4 criteria of an excellent marshmallow: gooeyness, crispiness, color, and symmetry. It was a great idea. I would even say it was brilliant, but it needed something. You can’t have this serious of a contest and not give away an award. So I decided to make a trophy. I made the trophy the day of the event, in a hurry, in my dad’s garage, with a staple gun which I thought wasn’t working. In my attempts to fix the staple gun I stapled my hand. It was an honest mistake that cost my hand dearly. Stapled hand aside the event was a success.

This year marked our third year as youth leaders with Dylan and Marilee Holsclaw. Check out their website:
After three years, we finally put together a scope and sequence that outlines a 6 year rotation of topics we will cover. Our goal is to help our teens become effective church members by providing them with a theological foundation, teaching them to live by biblical principles, developing their gifts in the body, and giving them a biblical lens through which to view our culture.
Family Happenings
If you have made it this far, take a moment to pat yourself on the back. Onward.
Atticus has a friend on the way! Baby #2 is due in December. She (yes, she) has begun kicking up a storm. We are not sure if Atticus believes us that there is a baby in mommy, but we will continue to try to convince him. Speaking of Atticus, he turns two soon! Hard to believe until you see him tearing around the house saying every word he knows in no particular order. He has energy coming out his ears and we love it!

In August, Ember and I celebrated our 4th Anniversary. As we look at the past 4 years of marriage and almost 3 years of serving at Ironwood, we are so grateful to those of you who have come along side us as we serve churches in the West. Your prayers have been much needed and much appreciated. Many of you have given financial support over the years and we cannot express how encouraging and helpful your generosity has been to our family. Thank you!
One last thing and I’m done. Would you join us in prayer for a church that would be willing to support us. We need to raise $1,000 more of monthly support. That is a daunting number to reach. Instead of asking you to pray for all $1,000 at once would you simply pray for one church who would take us on as a regular supporter. An additional $50 – $100 a month would go a long way as we prepare for our baby girl and navigate rising grocery prices.
We will be visiting churches throughout this fall as we work towards raising more support. If you know of churches who would be excited about supporting our mission to serve churches and reach people in the West, please let me know. My contact information can be found at the bottom of this webpage.
Prayer Requests
- Add one church willing to support us regularly.
