Summer 2021 | Crazy Carl

Camp Happenings

I’ve got a cup of coffee and a lot to tell you. There’s a new activity, Crazy Carl, 2 new videos, and fall preparations. There’s only so much coffee in this mug so I better get writing!

At the beginning of the summer, we built a low ropes course called The Anvil. Made up of 3 obstacles, The Anvil is designed to teach campers the basics of teamwork. For juniors this means learning three simple foundational concepts: Ask, Help, and Listen.

Whose Crazy Carl? No one really knows, but he helped with a new game we tried this summer called the Bulgogi Expedition (I am not referring to food. I am referring to a fictional tribe that shows up in many Junior camp legends. If you want to know more…come to Junior camp). Imagine a choose your own adventure book that required you to do what you read and involved real treasure. That’s the Bulgogi Expedition and the juniors had a blast searching for Jedediah Smith’s lost treasure.

Crazy Carl showing campers a stick…not sure why.

In addition to running camp, we put out not one but TWO new videos! Sometimes, I feel like one of those annoying people who always tells you to subscribe to their YouTube channel. But seriously…subscribe to the Ironwood YouTube channel (I guess I am one of those annoying people).

Now that summer is over, preparation for fall camps is well underway. This fall I hope to finish another Wifi tower (maybe two if things go smoothly). Ember is planning a playhouse for the Hacienda (playhouse is such an underwhelming word…Maybe we should call it a Fort? Castle? Fortress? Citadel?).

Church Happenings

Over summer, I had the privilege of teaching a Sunday school class with my dad. Thankfully, I wasn’t in charge of the whole thing and was able to pawn off the hard parts to him. Also, none of the Youth Group were in the class so I can steal repurpose all his work and teach the same class to them. This will be our first year in the new youth room and we can’t wait!

Family Happenings

Atticus keeps growing! He’s not walking yet, but he has figured out the dangerous art of standing on his own (despite his mom’s protests). At the end of summer, Atticus met his cousins in Virginia for the first time. We enjoyed introducing him to green stuff. He, also, met his cousin, Shasta, for the second time (It was more like the first time since the first time they met Atticus was about 4 months old).

We are planning to go on deputation over the next 9 months. It has been fun to see God provide financially for us over and over. Twice this summer individuals gave us generous gifts that were exactly what we needed. To those who have supported us, thank you for your generosity!

Praises

  • Atticus’ room is now air conditioned.
  • Generous financial gifts that have allowed us to keep doing ministry.
  • Ironwood has had more campers than we expected.

Prayer Requests

  • Need to raise $1,300 of monthly support.
  • Safety while traveling for Deputation.
  • Finish another WiFi Tower (I have 2 more to go!)

For God’s Glory,

Bodie & Ember Brock
