Spring 2021 | Grout, Tag, and a Cat

Camp Happenings

Hold on to your hats folks! A lot has happened since our update in December. In January, Scott Grubb (an IT consultant) helped me install the equipment for two of the WiFi Towers. He, also, helped us make significant network security improvements.

In February, Ironwood hosted camp conference called Tweakage. Camps from all over the United States came to Ironwood to swap idea and compare notes. Because of COVID, we knew that not as many camps would be able to make it. So, we recorded it (all 14 sessions!).

This spring, I had the privilege of hosting a small retreat called Refined. Designed for men headed into ministry, Refined meets annually to talk about what we have learned over the year. With few activities, it is focused on fellowship and spiritual growth.

In March, dad came up with the hair-brained idea of playing a giant game of tag across the entire camp property. So, we did and it was fantastic! That video turned into a two part series that has been one of my favorite projects ever.

Ember started repairing the Hacienda conference room floor. With the grout falling out, it looked like it could turn into a huge project. Thankfully, with the help of our Maintenance team, they figured out a solution that might fix the floor for good! Ember will be happy if she never sees grout ever again.

April, also, brought Youth Leaders retreat which meant more hours behind a camera. We recorded all the session from the retreat and plan to release them throughout the year as part of our Youth Leader’s brain Series. Lastly, prep for summer is well underway.

Phew! Feel free to take a breather. Maybe grab a drink of water. Feeling better? Good. Onward!

Church Happenings

Hopefully, you have caught your breath because camps not the only place that has been busy (a beehive metaphor would be appropriate here). In January, we took the youth group to Youth Winter Rendezvous at Ironwood. We finished out the retreat with marshmallows and testimonies around a campfire at our house. This Spring brought many new visitors to church. Despite all the setbacks of 2020, God keeps working!

In April, church started work on a youth room for youth group. Over the past…well…for as long as I can remember, youth group has been meeting in offices, houses, outside, and an old computer lab. As of May 2, we have our own room! With a whiteboard! And Air conditioner!

Family Happenings

Atticus crawled! Well, it was a half scoot, half crawl, but we are going to count it either way. This has been nothing but bad news for the cat whose tail has been captured numerous times (babies aren’t particularly kind to their captives). We wouldn’t be surprised if his first word is “Kitty.” Ember and I are ok with this since it means neither of us will feel left out.

As for the house, it’s still here and it keeps getting better. Ember and her mom did numerous painting projects (somehow, I got out of all of them). They painted our coffee and tea cabinet, Ember whitewashed the fireplace, Her mom painted the guest bedroom (and furnished it), and Ember started painting the master bathroom. In addition to new paint, the master bathroom, also, has a new light and vent (which only took me 2 YouTube videos and minimal collateral damage).
